BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost utilizes the data bus CAN to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from adding an additional key or replacing the ECU to bypass your security system as it requires a correct PIN code to start the engine.

The Ghost is unique to other immobilisers because it does not use key fobs or LED indicators. Instead, it uses your vehicle's existing buttons to allow you to enter a specific disarm sequence that you only are aware of.

Stop & Start

If you've ever driven a brand new BMW or utilized the stop start feature, you may have noticed that when you stop the engine the engine continues to continue to run for around 30 seconds after releasing the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to monitor the vehicle for a signal that comes from the ignition key. Once it finds this, the vehicle will continue to operate. The Autowatch 2 Ghost immobiliser prevents this from happening by stopping the car when you push a button sequence.

Our BMW ghost immobiliser, a new generation device, doesn't require cutting OEM wires or to add keys or alarms that are made by an aftermarket company. It is connected to the BMW CAN data network and is programmed with a unique PIN code that is accessible via buttons in your car. This lets you enter key sequences that are not accessible in normal menus for media. For example, volume up/down or source cruise control, air conditioning etc. The PIN can range between 4 and 20 numbers and is therefore difficult for thieves to determine or crack.

Service Mode / Valet Mode

Once the service / valet mode is enabled, it will stop your BMW from being able to be driven once started, this prevents anyone from test driving the vehicle while you are away. Once you return, the vehicle will return to normal operation and will not be damaged or stolen.

Anti-Hijack

With high-tech thieves becoming more and more sophisticated the technology in security systems has to change, that's why Ghost has created this subtle and unobtrusive immobiliser. It is designed to stop thieves from adding a new key or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and drive it away. Ghost links up to your CAN data network, and utilizes the buttons in your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create a unique push sequence which needs to be completed before the engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack mode and once active, any attempt to start the engine will be blocked. The system will honk the horn flashing the indicators, and stall the vehicle in the event that the code cannot be found. The Anti-Hijack feature is removed by entering your push sequence or by entering service mode which allows your car to begin and drive, without having to enter your PIN.

If you have an GPS device linked up to your BMW it is possible to use it to disable the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car even when the vehicle is parked not being watched. You can also use your mobile phone to control the anti-theft feature as well as other functions.

The system allows you to turn your vehicle on and off, then select drive and leave service mode without having your key fobs. You can also view your vehicle in real-time on a map displayed on your smartphone, perfect for tracking your car when on the move.

The ghost immobiliser tracker (great post to read) can be positioned under the dashboard, or within the centre console. It is completely hidden and secure, and does not require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to Ethernet cable) and a personalised pin code is inserted into it. This pin code has to be selected before the engine starts. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system by using an unauthorized clone or replacement ECU.

If the vehicle is being stolen the Ghost will go into service mode and shut down all functions unless you have a PIN number or use the mobile application to disarm it. This is a feature that was designed to protect your vehicle from high tech criminals who are using relay boxes to steal your car. This will stop thieves from using mobile phones to activate your sat-navs or mp3 players to locate your vehicle!

Ghost also stops "Relay Style Frequency Amplification". This is the most frequent method of stealing a vehicle with a keyfob which has been duplicated or stolen through hacking. Ghost enables you to prevent this by installing an anti-theft device in your vehicle called Secure-A-Key. The device is installed inside your vehicle's key-fob and removes the battery after a short period of inactivity. This is possible on all modern PKE key-fobs.
