Citroen has a variety of key types, depending on the model and year of your vehicle. Certain models come with keys that unlock doors remotely, while others require that you insert it into the ignition to start your vehicle. The majority of keys have transponder chips which are used to connect with your car. The embedded chip inside the key has to be programmed for your particular car.

A mobile technician will visit your location and re-synchronize your key with your vehicle. They'll have all the diagnostic equipment needed to do the job and will not charge the same amount as a dealer would.

Transponder Chips

A transponder chip inside your key is designed to prevent wiring your vehicle with hot wires. This is a typical method used by thieves to steal vehicles. If you have a transponder key that has a chip inside, it will shut down the immobilizer in your vehicle if the wrong key is used to start it. This technology is extremely efficient in preventing theft of vehicles.

The transponder chips in your citroen ds3 keys can not be in sync with your vehicle from time to time and it's essential to keep them secure. If you enjoy fishing, surfing, or kayaking, having a key with a transponder chip can make your life much easier. Rather than having to worry about taking a metal key with you in the event you have to lock your car when you're on vacation, this type of key is waterproof and can be stored on your surfboard, fishing pole or kayak.

Prior to 1997 Citroen vehicles and vans didn't use transponders so making a spare key is relatively simple and can be completed at the site. From 1998 onwards, all vehicles will come with a transponder built into them which must be programmed to the chassis of the vehicle and this requires specialized equipment.
