The Vertuo machines produce an espresso that is more rich and more dense than the crema produced by the Original machines. The crema is more than just froth. However, as the Spruce notes, it can account for up to a quarter of an espresso's flavor. The Original line also comes with more expensive Creatista and Lattissima models that include built-in milk frothers that can make cappuccinos, lattes and macchiatos at the touch of an button.

The Lattissima Line

This line of machines is perfect for people who prefer milky coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, and want a machine that can handle it all. It comes with three recipes that can be customized and its 4.2 1 ounce milk container can be removed and washed in the dishwasher. It's also lightweight, making it easy to move and store in a compact space. Some customers have complained that it's not as intuitive as other nespresso coffee maker (funny post) machines.

The jug's lines for drinks are etched into it, so you can choose the beverage you want to make while the machine heats up. It comes with a sensor that stops steaming at the moment it is unable to make milk.

The wand that froths can be tricky to clean and is a common complaint from Nespresso owners. The Lattissima Pro or Gran Lattissima features a self-cleaning function that cleans out the milky insides of the frother after each use.

The Vertuo Line

A Nespresso Vertuo machine makes a small cup of coffee that is ideal for those who love espresso and prefer a quick strong drink. Each capsule has a barcode around its outer rim that is read by the machine's computer to determine the size of drink it can create. Nespresso's Vertuo pods are extracted with a unique technology.

The Vertuo Line offers a wide variety of drinks, including Ristretto (mini espresso), Espresso, Lungo, Americano and Cappuccino. The machines can also be used with the Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother to create frothy cappuccinos and lattes.

Each Vertuo Line coffee machine heats quickly and is ready for brewing in less than 30 seconds. They use a smaller water tank than Original Line machines and require less maintenance. There are a variety of models available that you can choose one that is compatible with your design and budget.

Unlike the Original Line machines, which only make Nespresso capsules, the Vertuo Line also brews regular, filter-brewed coffee. It does this by using a separate spout at the bottom of the machine.

The only downside to the VertuoPlus is that it takes longer to prepare than other machines, especially when making an Americano. Comparing the Bunn Fastbrew to the Nespresso VertuoPlus, which can make an 8-ounce Americano within 42 seconds, the VertuoPlus took 1 minute, 51 seconds. Luckily, you can accelerate the process by choosing an automatic mode.
