Window sashes need to be regularly checked for mold, mildew and other damage. By catching problems before they become serious, you can save money on future repairs.

The sash is an interior framing that can be moved vertically upwards or downwards in windows that open. This article will show you how to make several easy repairs to your sash.

Weather Stripping

Wooden window repairs sashes can give an elegant appearance to your home. They are also sturdy and can last many years when they are maintained properly. They may, however, get damaged or deteriorated over time, due to exposure and normal wear and tear. Weather stripping is the most important thing to address when repairing windows with sash. It is located on both the frame and sash. If it's worn or loose, out, it can lead to drafts and other issues. To fix it, start by determining your window's brand and the date on which the glass was manufactured (etched in the corner of the glass or on the aluminum spacer between panes). Sash Hardware

The hardware that holds the window sashes can wear out with time and use. This can result in windows or doors that is difficult to open or close. It's important to know that replacing or fixing this hardware is usually simple and inexpensive. If you're having difficulty opening a sash, spray some grease into the jamb channel. Then, slide the sash open to see if that fixes the problem. If not, the problem is likely with the sash balance and you'll need to take out the sash to gain access to the hardware.

The ideal situation is for window sashes to move open and shut without effort, but this is difficult when the weights are worn or if the sash's meeting rail isn't properly glazed. This problem can be caused by a variety of reasons, such as insufficient maintenance or an incorrect weight rating for the specific window sash.

If the hinge arms on the window begin to move, this can cause the sash drag and then hit the frame in the opposite corner (Photo 1). Sash Weights

Sash weights are made of iron or lead cylindricals that are contained in a concealed cavity and attached by a rope to the movable window sash. After you have removed the access panel, you can begin working on the sash. Use a flat bar or chisel to pry the small partsing beads out of their grooves.
