Bunk Beds Add Style and Character to Kids' Rooms

Bunk beds can bring style and character to a room for children. They're available in a wide variety of styles and configurations, from classic twin over full to futon to L-shaped.

The majority of bunk beds have ladders. They are much easier to climb and take up less floor space than stairs. Some have a fixed ladder, while others place the ladder on either the right or left side of the long end of the bunk.

Size

There are different sizes of bunk beds to meet the requirements of every family. The standard bunk bed consists of two twin mattresses that are stacked on top of one another vertically. Other sizes of mattresses like queen full, twin, or XL, could be utilized. The height of the top bed can be adjusted to increase or decrease the space between the ceiling and the sleepers.

Some manufacturers suggest that there should be at least 6-8 inches of space between the bottom of the mattress and the top of the slats. This ensures that the top sleepers have enough space to move and avoid hitting their heads against the ceiling when they climb in or out of the bed. The bottom of the mattress is often also fitted with a safety rail to stop a fall from occurring while asleep.
