The XM5s are not waterproof or dust-proof. Sony actually recommends not sweating on the XM5s or taking them out in the rain. This might not be a problem for many people, but it could cause a problem for those who spend a lot of their time in the gym or lives in a city that is rainy.

The Apple AirPods Max are a pair of wireless cordless headphones that fit over the ear equipped with Bluetooth technology and noise cancelling. Apple created dynamic drivers that measure 40mm with a neutral audio profile that emphasizes mids and highs without going too loud. This makes them great for both music and movies. They also provide better sound quality than many competing pairs of headphones.

The headphones are light in construction that is comfortable on the cordless head phones. The earcups, which are constructed of memory foam and covered with woven fabric, and fit comfortably over the ears, do not put pressure on the sides or forehead. The ear cups can tilt and rotate to accommodate different head shapes. The headphones automatically switch to standby mode when they are removed from your ear or placed in their case, and they only wake up when you put them on your head again.

Another feature that is quite cool is spatial audio, which makes use of the accelerometers and gyroscopes of the AirPods Max and your iPhone or iPad to determine the direction you're going, and then repositions sounds to make it seem like they're coming from these locations. This creates an immersive theater experience for videos and movies that were recorded in 5.1, 7.1 or Dolby Atmos. The only drawback is that spatial audio requires an iOS device to use it and you won't be able experience it on other devices.

The AirPods Max is a decent pair, but I'd feel a bit ripped off when I spend $549 at an Apple Store knowing that the next-generation model will be better in the next year. AirPods Pro are more expensive, but they have superior battery life and more advanced features.
