Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique keycase to celebrate the brand's centenary. It is constructed of Dark stained Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes the flying "B" paperweight keys, as well as an original 1930s booklet that features never-before-seen 1930s 8 Litre images.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a brand that takes its aesthetics very seriously. Bentley is the most sought-after automobile brand globally due to its unique design and craftsmanship. The company continues to push the limits by utilizing the most advanced technology and craftsmanship, including the introduction of a digital instrument cluster and an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof and a crafted docking station for Apple iPads, and electrochromic 'smart' glass that can be changed between opaque and transparent by one button.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019, 100 years after the marque was established. The marque, which is now owned by Volkswagen alone following years of dispute with BMW and Volkswagen, had planned a series of special launches and events to celebrate the occasion. Before pandemic planning took the spotlight, the marque had a number of special events and launches planned to mark the occasion.

Design

Bentley is a premium car manufacturer who produces extravagant and luxurious vehicles. But even the keys make a statement. The Bentayga key is made of sterling silver. The Mulsanne was redesigned and redeveloped by Bentley Mulliner to become the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats were designed to give passengers the most comfortable and private experience. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The customized heating and ventilation as well as air conditioning system was designed to provide each passenger with the perfect climate control setting.

In addition to a suite of exquisitely executed styling tweaks, the Mulsanne is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that can produce 560bhp and 479lb ft of torque. This incredibly powerful power is paired with a new suspension system that provides Bentley's trademark smooth ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a bespoke specification called the Centenary Specification for vehicles built in 2019. The cabin features cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a custom Bentley keycase, which completes the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key features a button that opens the trunk and a second button that can start the car. The key also includes a switch to turn on the parking brake. There is a knob that can fold and unfold the mirrors when parking in tight spaces. This feature makes it easier to get in and out of your car.

The key is made from vegetable tanned leather. It takes more than two days to craft each one. It is cut by hand to shape, sewn sealed and polished to provide a high-quality finish. It is sturdy small and compact, and it fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's large car key, however it feels more heavy and luxurious.

It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key which can help prevent theft of keys that are keyless. This device is inserted into the remote-control key fob, and stops it after a couple of minutes of inactivity, which prevents thieves from transmitting the frequency of the key to other devices that could unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design reflects the company's values of fine craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as modern technology. Over 4,000 employees are employed at its Crewe headquarters, which is responsible for the design, development and production of Bentley cars. Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own vehicle. The "mood station" allows customers to choose images that inspire them. The configuration that is created is then loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys, which are presented to the guests in a hand-crafted key case. The keys can also be fitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door's opening path with the owner's name and/or emblem when they are approaching the vehicle.

Instead of using a machine to space the perfectly-matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand.
